GM needs new leadership that is not committed to old Lock-ins if it is going to ever be a viable competitor. Only someone from outside the industry will be able to implement necessary Disruptions and create White Space that will allow GM (or Ford or Chrysler) to address long-term shortcomings. I don't know why Jobs would take the job, but someone who is Jobs-like is necessary. Read more at http://www.ThePhoenixPrinciple.com

Adam - thanks for your comment (and great article)...I couldn't agree with you more! All businesses (not just the auto industry) should continually evaluate consumer needs & wants and be willing to "disrupt" the way they do things when what they're doing is not working. I've worked for fashion and jewelry companies in the past and saw the same unwillingness to open their eyes to current consumer demands, always relying on what worked in the past - sticking to old "numbers". Companies need to realize, that yes, they can influence consumer desires and sometimes even create desires, but ultimately, businesses must follow consumers and not expect consumers to always follow them. If you don't have what consumers want, they (and their dollars) will leave you in the dust. ~Joyce (Owner/Founder of Coco-Zen)
